Abigail:My sunflowers are growing very well,I am very happy.

Shariel: I'm very happy and excited because my sunflowers are growing very fast.

Sriram: My sunflowers are growing pretty well and i wish it would grow faster.

Kim: I think that the sunflowers are growing very well...Wishing that it could grow faster.

Jia Hao: I think that the sunflowers are growing very well and I hope it would grow taller.

Ying Xuan: Yay!!!! My sunflower seeds are growing shorter than my partner's Singapore seeds..

Planning

In your own pair in each school, discuss how you want to carry out the experiment.
Guiding questions:

• What is the aim of the task?
• State your hypothesis. (A prediction of the results of the experiment)
• Make a plan of your experiment to test your hypothesis.
• State the methods and the materials that you will use.
• To ensure that your experiment is a fair test, you should change only 1 variable and keep the rest the same. (Variable – a condition of the experiment).
• What are the concepts involved?


Post your plan onto the wetpaint blog that are assigned to your group. By 03/04/09, there should be 3 plans in your assigned blog, one from each school. You are then encouraged to give your comments and feedback to the other team members by posting onto the web discussions in the assigned blog.

Overview of Problem Based Learning (PBL Lesson 1)

Hello to all students taking part in this Grow Green project. We are now setting you a task. This task will require you to solve a question.

There are 4 stages in this task. The planning, doing, checking and action stage respectively. The timeline is as followed:

1) Overview of our PDCA. (30/03/09-03/04/09)
2) Planning (P) (30/03/09-03/04/09)
3) Do (D) (06/04/09-10/04/09)
4) Check (C) and Action (A) (13/04/09-24/04/09)

You will be sharing your findings and experiences during the Skype lessons.

You have been put into pairs. Each pair will have access to a wetpaint account. You will collaborate with students from the other 2 schools to devise an experiment to solve the question.

Remember, you will be assessed for teamwork and content via the wetpaint blog.

Devise an experiment so that half of the flower is coloured red and the other half is coloured blue.

Materials that will be provided for in the doing stage:

• 3 stalks of flowers
• red coloured dye
• blue coloured dye
